Cassells Street could see another portion of the main thoroughfare four laned in 2018.
Adam Lacombe, the City of North Bay’s Senior Capital Program Engineer, says the two and three lane sections of Cassells Street are not enough for the traffic volume.
The topic was part of a public discussion at City Hall last night.
The project would see four laning take place from King street all the way to the bypass.
However, Lacombe says it is still early in the process.
“We have a traffic study underway that, once complete, will give us a better idea of what the improvements could yield,” said Lacombe.
“Generally speaking though, if we go from two to four lanes, the capacity could double.”
The City will conduct an environmental assessment in the area which they hope will be completed by the fall and then the plan would be to work on the detailed design over the fall and winter months.
“We have a goal of tendering for a spring (2018) start on Phase 1 construction - likely from Olive to Duke where we have the most issues with the sanitary sewer,” added Lacombe.
