Cops check on well-being of children. Find weapons and drugs

East Algoma OPP have arrested a man and a woman after a call to check on the well-being of their children at a home in Blind River.

On November 10, shortly after 2 p.m., police assisted another government agency with the wellness check. 

While at the house, police saw an unsecured rifle leaning against a wall, as well as different types of ammunition not locked up. Police also seized a bag of unmarked orange pills, numerous bags of cannabis, and over a dozen bottles of Methadone. 

As a result, an arrest warrant was issued for the parent's arrest.

Joseph McQueen, 46, from Blind River is charged with:

  • Three counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Two counts of possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Three counts of failure to comply with a probation order
  • Two counts of possession of a Schedule II substance
  • Possession of a Schedule III substance

McQueen appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on November 21 and was remanded into custody.

Jennifer Mussche, 40, from Blind River is charged with:

  • Three counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition 
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Two counts of possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Two counts of possession of a Schedule II substance
  • Possession of a Schedule III substance

Mussche appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice video bail in Blind River on November 27, and was remanded into custody.
