Constable moves up the ladder

The North Bay Police Service has promoted one of its constables to the rank of sergeant. The position opened following the promotion of Kirk Kelusky to inspector this past summer.

Chief Paul Cook is pleased to announce the promotion of Const. Shawn Devine to the rank of Sergeant.

Sgt. Devine has roots and strong family ties to the community. He graduated from Scollard Hall Secondary School before attaining his BA in Sociology through Laurentian University.

Sergeant Devine joined the North Bay Police Service on February 1, 1988 and was sworn in as a fourth class constable in June of 1988 after graduating from the Ontario Police College.

During his policing career Sergeant Devine has served in the Patrol Section, the Criminal Investigation Section and was a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) for approximately 5 years. Sergeant Devine has been a mainstay on the Heritage Festival Management Committee and has volunteered countless hours towards this community event.

He received a Board Commendation from the North Bay Police Services Board in 1994, a Chief’s Commendation from Chief Ron Nagle in 1999 and has numerous letters in his file recognizing him for his efforts, dedication and professionalism specific to his involvement with the Heritage Festival. In 2001 the Government of Canada honoured Sergeant Devine for his many hours of volunteerism.

Chief Cook describes Sgt. Devine as, “a loyal and dedicated team player with strong values that works tirelessly for the betterment of the service and the communities we serve.”
