Applications are now open for the Speaker’s Book Award which recognizes works by Ontario authors reflecting the diverse culture and rich history of the province and of its residents, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says in a news release.

Applications are now open for the Speaker’s Book Award which recognizes works by Ontario authors reflecting the diverse culture and rich history of the province and of its residents, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says in a news release.

Topics may include the history of the province and its many communities; prominent figures in Ontario from various fields including, but not limited to, politics, culture, arts, education and business; the history and achievements of women and minorities in Ontario; and the development of Ontario’s parliamentary system.Special consideration will be given to works focusing on Ontario’s parliamentary heritage and on provincial political discourse.

Eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • Authors must be Ontario residents, and publishing companies must be based in Ontario.
  • Submissions will be accepted from both publishers and authors directly.
  • Books must be published for the first time within the last two (2) years, and must be published by the 2014 application deadline.
  • Both English and French submissions are accepted; please note there are no separate categories for language.
  • Previously submitted books, reprints, new editions, textbooks, travel guide books, how-to books and manuscripts will not be considered.

Applications should be received no later than Friday, September 19th, 2014.

The winner will be announced at an awards reception at the Ontario Legislature in the next spring, and be featured in the Legislative Assembly Gift Shop and Legislative Library.
