Liberal leader and citizen of France Stéphane Dion has
stripped Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota of his shadow cabinet position.

“This is really a bad day for Anthony Rota,” said Craig Dellandrea, a spokesman for the local Conservative Association. “Apparently Mr. Rota’s early backing of Iraq-war advocate Michael Ignatieff for the Liberal leadership didn’t sit well with Mr. Dion”. Possibly the new Liberal leader also found Mr. Rota’s performance in his previous role underwhelming.

Rota had been FedNor critic under interim leader Bill Graham. That position is now held by Ken Boshcoff. Boshcoff is one of the Liberal MPs who voted with the Conservative government to pass the Softwood Lumber Agreement. “I cannot consciously vote to close further mills and put more of my constituents out of work,” he said. (Boshcoff Press Release, September 5, 2006).

“Hopefully Mr. Boshcoff will bring that level of integrity with him to his new job as FedNor critic,” said Mr. Dellandrea. “It would be a refreshing change.”
