UPDATE: Fatality (Collision closes Hwy. 17 in Verner)

Update 12:15 p.m.

Early this morning at 12:36 a.m., Warren and Sudbury OPP officers, West Nipissing Fire Department and the West Nipissing Emergency Medical Services, responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 17,  in Verner.

The investigation has revealed that an eastbound tractor trailer and a westbound vehicle collided head on. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is continuing with the assistance of Two Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) from the North East Region.

Highway 17 was closed until 8 a.m., however, a detour around the collision scene was available.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending the notification of the next of kin.

Update: 8:35 a.m.

MTO says the roadway is now open after being cleared of debris between Highway 64 and Beaudry Rd. All lanes are opened.

Highway 17 is closed at Verner in between Gingras Avenue and Beaudry Road after what the OPP are calling a serious collision that occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Sept. 6.

The OPP first reported the collision on Twitter at 12:45 a.m. At 6:45 a.m., the OPP said tow trucks were on scene to remove the vehicles. Police also said a detour is available but didn't provide any information about that detour.
