UPDATE: FATALITY, names disclosed Collision closes Highway 17 between Mattawa and Deep River

OPP say the accident involves a westbound car and an eastbound motorcycle in a head on collision The highway was closed at 1:36 p.m. 

Update Sept. 8

On September 1, shortly before noon, officers from OPP Upper Ottawa Valley detachment, along with Technical Traffic Collision Investigators were called to a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a westbound passenger vehicle and an eastbound motorcycle on Highway 17 east of Deux Rivieres in Head, Clara and Maria Township.

The passenger on the motorcycle was transported to the hospital by air ambulance and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Deceased is 39-year-old Annie Ledoux of Chazel, Quebec.  The driver of the motorcycle was transported to the hospital by ambulance with serious injuries. 

The driver of the passenger vehicle was not injured in the collision.

Highway 17 was re-opened at approximately 6:30 p.m. on September 1, after being closed for several hours due to the collision.  The investigation is continuing.

OPP and Ontario 511 reports that a collision has forced the closure of Highway 17 in both directions between Mattawa and Deep River just east of Deux Rivieres this afternoon.

The highway was closed at 1:36 p.m. 

A detour is available using Highway 60 say OPP but there is no estimated time of reopening.

OPP say the accident involves a westbound car and an eastbound motorcycle in a head on collision.

Reports indicate the passenger on the motorcycle was killed.
