Snafu at City Hall saw envelopes mailed without being properly sealed.

The machine that seals envelopes the City mails out to you malfunctioned, and now an unknown number of unsealed or improperly sealed envelopes have been sent out to residents.

It also affects some mail from the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board and Nipissing District Housing Corporation, which, as tenants of City Hall, use the same mailing service.

"At present, the City has no knowledge of any unauthorized access to personal information during the mailing process," says a news release.

The City has notified the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner and has taken steps to address the envelope-sealing machine issue. A review of protocols is also underway to prevent similar incidents in the future.

"The City is treating this matter seriously and apologizes that this incident occurred. It also wishes to reassure the community that safeguarding entrusted information remains a top priority."
