Since the establishment of the North Bay Police Service in 1882, two police officers have died in the line of duty.

The City of North Bay will posthumously recognize North Bay Police Service Constables Fred Lefebvre and Leonard Slater who courageously and unselfishly gave their lives in the line of duty to keep our community safe and preserve our peaceful society.

Though killed in the line of duty in 1923 and 1973, the passage of time has in no way diminished the sacrifices that Constables Lefebvre and Slater made.

They are, and will forever remain heroes.

The City of North Bay and the North Bay Police Service would like to take the opportunity to invite media personnel and members of the public to attend a dedication ceremony honouring fallen Constables Lefebvre and Slater.

The Main Street Overpass and North Bay Police Service Headquarters will be dedicated in memory of Fred Lefebvre and Leonard Slater respectively, standing as an enduring reminder of their dedication and their sacrifice.

Dedication ceremonies will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion, 150 First Avenue West, North Bay at 11:00 a.m. on November 7, 2012.
