North Bay Police say they will have a "limited presence" at a planned “Worldwide Rally for Freedom & Democracy,” scheduled to take place at noon at the waterfront Saturday.

Police say they became aware of information about the gathering this week, which had been circulated on social media sites, says a news release.

“At this time, we have no reason to believe that attendees will be violent or disruptive,” said North Bay Police Chief Scott Tod. “However, anytime there is a significant gathering of individuals, we ensure there is a police presence to maintain public safety and the safety of all those involved.”

However, police warn that the Reopening Ontario Act remains in effect.

"Individuals and groups who violate the provisions of the Act and put members of the public at risk face the possibility of being charged with a violation of the Act," says Tod. "Nipissing District remains in Red Zone, which means that organized public events and social gatherings, where physical distancing can be maintained, are limited to 5 people indoors or 25 people outdoors."

The North Bay Police Service encourages all individuals to follow COVID-19 public health guidelines, including practicing physical distancing and wearing a mask adds the release.
