A North Bay man has been fined a total of $1,000 and has received a two-year probation order for his involvement in assisting with a moose that was unlawfully hunted.

Wayne Farrow pleaded guilty to unlawfully possessing wildlife. In addition to the fine, the court order restricts him from hunting, possessing firearms for hunting purposes, and from possessing or acquiring any licence to hunt for two years.

A Bonfield man previously pleaded guilty and received a total of $3,000 in fines and a one-year hunting suspension for his involvement with this case.

Court heard that on October 30, 2010, an adult bull moose was killed near North Bay, but the hunter was only licensed to hunt a calf moose.

The moose was quartered, skinned and hung in Farrow’s garage.

Attempts to conceal that the animal was an adult bull were unsuccessful.

Justice of the Peace Michael Kitlar heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, North Bay, on March 27, 2012.
