The City of North Bay has created a new job to help enhance the already booming film industry in the city.

The City currently has a position available working within the Economic Development Department on initiatives related to the Film and Television sector.  The closing date for the position is June 8th.

Tanya Bedard, the Economic Development Officer for the City of North Bay, says the funding for the position is almost completely coming from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.

“First and foremost we thought given the excitement over the last two years in the film and television industry it would be a great opportunity to be able to hire an intern,” said Bedard.

“It would be a great opportunity for a recent grad to either come home or a recent grad from a local institution as well to be able to get involved and see what it is like to be behind the scenes and do a little bit more work on the business side of the film and TV production side and working with me directly to be able to continue to grow the expectations that we have been able to create here locally.”

Bedard says she could use the help.

“Just the expectation of having more boots on the ground, that means more relationship building with the productions, more time we can spend with them hopefully recruiting new productions, find out more about who is looking for a home,” she said.

“So really just duplicating the effort in the sense of the teamwork we are going to be able to build and hopefully bring more productions and also have an education for the businesses and the residents here that it still continues to be a positive story when everybody is talking about film and television.”

Bedard says the closing date for the position is June 8th and she hopes the new position will be filled as quickly as possible after the closing date.
