City clears a path for new ways to name its snowplows

Today at Lee Park from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., the City of North Bay is celebrating National Public Works Week with a Family Fun Day event, with displays and activities featuring heavy equipment and traffic signals and one way to enter the Name the Plow initiative

The City of North Bay is asking residents to help name five of its snowplows ahead of the 2023/24 winter season.

To take part, submit your entries to the Name the Plow Contest at www.northbay.ca/NameThePlow or via email to [email protected]. Submissions can also be made in person Friday at the Family Fun Day event at Lee Park from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., which is being held as part of National Public Works Week.

The event will include displays and activities featuring heavy equipment and traffic signals, information about the City’s water and wastewater treatment facilities and its recycling and landfill operations.

The winning names will be revealed this fall and displayed on a snowplow during the 2023/24 winter season.

National Public Works Week runs until May 27 and recognizes public works professionals and the important work they do to keep our water flowing, our roads plowed, and our parks clean. Public Works Week is celebrated annually across North America as an opportunity to educate residents about public works and to celebrate the work of our public works professionals. This year’s theme is "Connecting the World through Public Works."
