The City of North Bay building numbers are ahead of last year for this period, says a news release from the city.

Construction values total $8.8M compared to $4.2M at the same time last year.

However, a very large portion is just one building.

One new industrial building being built is for $7.4M.  Other smaller projects make up the balance.

Mayor Al McDonald declined to name the company responsible for the big project, telling Baytoday that it is a company expanding in the city, and he believes it is going to make an announcement sometime in the future.

“It is still early but we are pleased to see that the numbers are higher than last year at this point,” stated McDonald.

“Council eliminated development charges for houses less than 1,200 square feet and reduced charges by 30 per cent for homes between 1,200 to 1,500 square feet.  Housing starts typically occur in late April – early May.  It is our hope this spurs development in this sector moving forward.”
