Homemade cinnamon rolls were the order of the day Friday as friends of Jenny Richmond and Ryan Desharnais hosted a ‘Coffee and Pastries’ event at the Gathering Place in an effort to help defray the cost of the couples’ November wedding.

Thanks to donations from a number of businesses and individuals from around the community, including $240 donation raised by a City of North Bay Pubic Works crew, the team raised friends raised $1,333.00.

The Rotary Club of North Bay will hold the funds in trust, not only will the funds be used to help with costs associated with their November wedding, but the funds will also be used towards the cost of medical equipment associated with Richmond’s ongoing battle with Ewing Sarcoma cancer.

Rotary spokesperson Chris Mayne credits Allan Snyder, a staff member at the Northeast Mental Health Centre, for starting the ball rolling. He also thanked local bakers from Twiggs, Evelyn’s Urban Café and the Swiss Pastry Chef for helping the cause.

“Calls have come in from as far away as CFB Cornwall from former North Bayites who have been following the local story to offer their support,” notes Mayne.

Donations can still be made through Rotary by contacting Chris Mayne at 474-1536 or U-Need-A-Cab 497-7777.
