Chippewa Secondary School posted the highest aggregate score of 910 in the annual University of Waterloo Mathematics Contests for Grade 9-11. Although the Raiders did not earn the top score in each grade, they were consistent runner-up performers and earned the top overall score for Grades 9-11 city-wide and in the district.

“‘We are proud of our students who worked hard to prepare for the tests with their teachers,” stated Grant Miller, program team leader for mathematics. “These tests feature higher level mathematics questions designed to test an individual’s critical thinking and problem solving skills.” The test is prepared annually by the University of Waterloo and was developed to identify top students and to encourage excellence in teaching and learning.

Top performers in each category were Corrine Georgetti , Matthew Robinson and Sean Green who scored first, second and third respectively for the Grade 9 Pascal Contest. In the Grade 10 Cayley Contest, Adam Birosh, Davis Zhu, and Gene Ye were our top performers. In the Grade 11 Fermat Contest, Rachel Fung, Jeff Luckett and Yi Huang earned high scores. The top performer in each category earns a medallion that will be presented at the spring awards ceremony.

Zone 63 consists of all North Bay and area high schools as well as schools in Sturgeon Falls, Timmins, Kapuskasing, New Liskeard and Iroquois Falls.
