Cementation growing its capacity in North Bay and Sudbury

'To date, we haven't enjoyed the recruitment success that we had hoped for locally but we continue to look for people because the main engineering group for the company is based in North Bay as well as Salt Lake in the U.S.'

Cementation Canada, a mine and facilities contracting and engineering company headquartered in North Bay, says it is growing its capacity here and in Sudbury while opening a new office in the GTA.

"We have been recruiting for a number of positions within the engineering group for quite some time now due to the upturn in our current workload," David Setchell, Executive V.P. Engineering told BayToday."So we've been looking at resourcing up here as well as Sudbury."

The company has also opened an office on Yonge St. in Toronto.

"By developing a GTA-based group of engineers and design professionals, Cementation is building capacity and enhancing the company’s service offering to the mining community," says a news release.

“Establishing a Cementation presence in the Greater Toronto Area was a practical decision based on our capacity needs and the availability of experienced engineers, technologists and design staff,” said Setchell, “We are excited about the opportunities this new office will provide as Cementation continues to deliver cost-efficient discipline and mining studies engineering to our clients, many of whom are based in Toronto.”

Setchell says it's not known yet how many will be recruited for the North Bay office.

"With the opening of the Toronto offices, it's in flux. It depends on our recruitment success. To date, we haven't enjoyed the recruitment success that we had hoped for locally but we continue to look for people because the main engineering group for the company is based in North Bay as well as Salt Lake in the U.S."

Setchell says opening an office in Toronto won't negatively affect North Bay.

"No, we continue to look for resources here locally. This is the centre of our operation here in Canada."

"The GTA-based multi-disciplinary engineering team will work collaboratively with Cementation’s existing engineering and operations groups located in North Bay and Sudbury," continues the release.

"Together the groups will continue to deliver high-quality detailed design and study services in support of the company’s growing business portfolio as Cementation enters into one of the busiest periods in the company’s 20-year history."
