OPSEU Local 667 North Bay and District Association for Community Living will celebrate the important work of the people who care for and support individuals with developmental disabilities at the first annual Developmental Services 'Worker Appreciation Day'.

When: Wed. Jan 17, 2007, 2pm- 7pm
Where: OPSEU office 579 Fraser St.

“We want to take the time to celebrate the incredible work done by the people who care for others in our community,” said Jo-Ann Wilson of OPSEU Local 667. “These workers have dedicated their lives to helping people with developmental disabilities live as independently as possible. The difference that staff make in their lives is immeasurable.”

Roy and Mary Rodgers, who have a family member in the developmental services system, couldn't agree more.
“My son really depends on the people providing these crucial services,” Mary said. “They are more than just workers. They are friends, coaches, and mentors. They provide strength and support when we need it the most. We couldn’t manage without them.

Staff in developmental services are finding themselves under increasing pressure due to funding cuts and staffing issues. Despite this, the workers are devoted to their clients and the families.

“It's important to take the time out to recognize the contributions that we make, not only to our clients but to their families and our community,” Jo-Ann Wilson said. “We hope everyone will come out and join us.”
