The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, issued the following statement today.

*****

On June 21 we celebrate National Aboriginal Day, a day in which we not only look back at the outstanding contributions Aboriginal peoples have made to Canada, but also forward, to the bright and prosperous future that, working together, we can achieve for all Canadians.

As we mark National Aboriginal Day, the Government of Canada is committed to working with our partners to make a difference in the lives of all Aboriginal people in Canada so we can move forward together in an environment of reconciliation and respect.

Canada has a rich diversity of Aboriginal cultures, languages and traditions that have played a key role in shaping our vibrant Canadian society.

I invite all Canadians to learn more about this aspect of our heritage and to join the National Aboriginal Day events being held across the country.

Let's all share in the celebration!
