Car Accidents way, way up this winter

If you think you’ve seen a lot more accidents on city streets this winter you are right. The North Bay City Police released its accidents statistics for December 2014 and January 2015 at the Police Board Meeting Tuesday.

If you think you’ve seen a lot more accidents on city streets this winter you are right.

The North Bay City Police released its accidents statistics for December 2014 and January 2015 at the Police Board Meeting Tuesday.  In those statistics showed an alarming stat that accidents are up almost 200 percent.

“I had a chance to chat with Staff Sargent Rick Dubeau, traffic supervisor,  who in coordination with our accident reporting centre is saying there has actually been so many accidents, almost 130 that our officers have investigated, save the traffic reporting centre, that they are backlogged trying to get it entered into our system, thats just how busy they’ve been,” said Deputy Chief Shawn Devine Tuesday afternoon.

Devine believe Mother Nature may be the one to blame.

“To put an exact reason on it but I can’t see how road conditions and weather wouldn’t have an effect on that because a lot of the accidents are people passing and bumping into each other with their side mirrors and the bump and grind ones where people are sliding into people.”
