Canadore College is hosting its first annual Innovation and Connections Conference next week that will feature well-known speaker Mike Lipkin.

Mike Lipkin, President of Environics/Lipkin, is one of North America's most esteemed coaches and motivators. In the last year, he delivered 150 seminars to more than 100,000 people in 19 countries. He has had associations with many large corporations and prominent world figures such as Nelson Mandela and Bill Clinton. Next Monday, Lipkin will be addressing a Canadore audience, providing insights to help them to remain engaged and relevant.

The conference is designed to provide a professional development opportunity to all staff and faculty, with a mix of both internal and external experts on subjects that affect the entire College and how, as a whole, it can make a stronger, more meaningful impact on its students. Interactive and engaging workshops focusing on change and evolution will explore the hard-hitting questions facing today's academic environment while also highlighting the lighter side of postsecondary education.

"Canadore College is driving innovation and change as we move towards our vision of being a College of Choice. The conference brings together a lot of expertise highlighting concrete examples of teaching excellence and benchmarking within our own walls," said Shawn Chorney, Acting Vice President of Strategic Enrolment, Student Services and Recruitment. "We are excited to be presenting this tremendous opportunity to our entire College community to enhance skills and expand knowledge. The agenda is sure to be informative and fun -participants will walk away feeling rejuvenated."

The conference will take place May 16 and 17 at the College for all Canadore and Nipissing University staff and faculty.

"I am really looking forward to interacting with my fellow colleagues that I don't usually get to see on a daily basis. This is an exciting opportunity to band together with them to move toward a common goal and direction by sharing best practices with one another," said Derek Lawday, professor in the School of Culinary Arts.

Gerard Peltier, recruitment officer for the Aboriginal Learning Unit said, "I jump at the chance to see motivational speakers like Mike Lipkin whenever possible...I love hearing fresh ideas on how to progress in a positive direction. This event is a great way to take advantage of lifelong learning opportunities in a fun way."
