Canadore's new indoor sports facility project is one step closer to reality.

The project, built behind the Canadore College Commerce Court Campus in North Bay is expected to be completed by the fall of 2024.

Canadore shared an aerial view of the project and an update through social media this week.

"The concrete has been poured and the turf is now in place," the post stated.

"We're one step closer to bringing this state-of-the-art facility to life. Opening this Fall, the facility will cater to many sports including year-round soccer, golf, baseball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, dry land training and sport conditioning."

Canadore officials are optimistic the sports dome will be open to the community and will build athletic capacity and tourism in the region.

"Additionally, there will be a 6,200 square foot clubhouse attached, complete with change rooms, reception and dedicated instructional and meeting space," the post continued.

The initial announcement for the 85,000-square-foot dome was made in June 2022.

Last September, the Ontario government announced another $2 million in funding for the project through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation

George Burton, Canadore president and CEO hoped the project would have been completed by the fall of 2023.

However, he says no one should be surprised with the construction delays.

"There are lots of factors, such as supply chain, increased cost with interest rates going up and to ensure we had all the environmental work done," Burton explained at a funding announcement.
