Canadore hands out layoff notices

Reports indicate that Canadore College is the latest employer to hand out layoff notices. Officials say three faculty members received notice of layoff as a result of five program cancellations due to lack of interest.

Further reports indicate that Vice President Academic Jim Connell was mum as far as if the institution would be facing further layoffs noting the college is currently in the budget talks.

The good news is that enrolment across the board (except the above mentioned) is up by six per cent from a year ago and 12 per cent among first year students.

Meanwhile, Boart Longyear issued 15 more indefinite layoffs. This is the 5th round of layoffs since October and brings the total number of job cuts at the mining company to 139.
