Canadian Cancer Society's Wheels of Hope program seeks drivers

Joining Wheels of Hope as a driver can be a very rewarding volunteer experience. The clients are extremely grateful. It's a great way to meet new people and help others in their own community.

The volunteer recruitment arm of the Canadian Cancer Society says the organization is in desperate need of volunteer drivers in North Bay and the surrounding areas to drive cancer patients to Sudbury for lifesaving treatment.

Wheels of Hope provides transportation for cancer patients all across Ontario (and in B.C., Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan as well) that don’t have a way to get to their life-saving treatments.

  • Clients should not be driving after some of their treatments or they may not have a car or driver's licence.
  • It can be a burden to ask a family member with a full-time job on a weekday.
  • Cancer doesn’t just affect the patient, it can affect their whole family.
  • We know that if someone cannot find a ride to their treatment they don’t go.

Mileage reimbursement is offered and the program runs Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Volunteers must drive a 100 per cent smoke-free vehicle, be at least double vaccinated for COVID-19 and wear a mask while transporting a client

Volunteer drivers are needed in North Bay and Sudbury but also in the rural and surrounding areas as well.
