Once again Canada World Youth members are set to embark on the city in August as part of the Africa-Canada Eco-Leadership Program. Six Canadian, six Kenyan and six Tanzania students will be staying in the Bay for three and a half months from August 15 till the first week in November putting theory to practice. The students will focus on the areas environmental issues, Bio-diversity, Eco-tourism and waste management.

The point of the Canada Youth Exchange Program is to help youth, foster a society that is dynamic, is just and help them really understand their place as global citizens. In order to accomplish this the youth need to be submerged into each community they stay in, therefore, host families are being sought to billet the students.

Officials say they don’t want the students to be visitors or houseguests when billeted, they want then to be part of the host family, therefore, they will do chores, cook and clean. Basically they will be part of the family for their stay, and the same philosophy is incorporated into the work placements as well.

Although the focus is Eco-Leadership Program Director Ikem Opara says, he is also looking for some diversity in the placements.

To billet a student or offer a work placement, please contact Ikem Opara, Project Supervisor by email at [email protected] or call 705-494-7452.

Once the program has wrapped up the North Bay portion, the group will then head to Tanzania for the overseas phase.

An Amazing Experience
