Canada holds off China; improves to 4-0

'They made everything and we really had to battle back and obviously, the steal of three helped but it was a fun game to play'

Jennifer Jones and Team Canada scored two in nine and stole two more in the 10th to defeat a feisty Team China 9-5 on Monday afternoon at Memorial Gardens at the Ford World Women’s Curling Championship.

China kept it close but Team Canada broke it open in the sixth with a steal of three to take a 5-3 lead.

“We didn’t play as great as we wanted to in the first half of the game but they played outstanding,” said Jones.

“They made everything and we really had to battle back and obviously the steal of three helped but it was a fun game to play.”

Jones says she felt the team picked it up in the second half of the game en route to a 4-0 record where Team Canada is tied with Sweden with a perfect record.

However, with Jones looking to take out a China stone to draw a blank in 8, she missed the takeout which led to a steal of one.

“I was pretty ticked off with myself in 8, that was not a very smart thing to do so,” she said.

“If you are going to do it the fourth game of the round robin is the game to do it in but we still had the advantage going into 9 but yeah I was disappointed in myself.”
