In the last week, OPP officers in the North Bay cluster checked a total of 1,146 vehicles during RIDE resulting in two charged with impaired.

On Monday, August 17th, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. on Highway 11 in Powassan an OPP officer responded to a traffic complaint of a suspected impaired driver. The officer located at the north entrance of Main Street and Highway 11. Driver, Darren David LAMOTHE, 39 years old of Hallam Township (west of Sudbury), was charged with Impaired Operation s. 253(1)(a) and with Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content s. 253(1) (b) Criminal Code (CC). LAMOTHE is scheduled to appear for court in North Bay on September 8th, 2009.

On Thursday, August 20th, 2009, on Highway 11N in Merrick Township, shortly before 2 p.m. a motor vehicle was stopped as a result of speeding. Upon further investigation, OPP officer charged the passenger, Clesson R. ALLEN, 21 years old of Picton, Ontario with Possession Scheduled II – Cannabis Marihuana – under 30 grams s. 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA). ALLEN is scheduled to appear for court in North Bay on September 29th, 2009.

On Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 at 8:00 p.m., an OPP officer stopped a motor vehicle as a result of a Highway Traffic Act violation on Highway 17, Beaucage Township. Ernest BARTLETT, 69 years old of Sudbury, was charged with Impaired Operation s. 253(1) (a) CC and with Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content s. 253(1) (b) CC. BARTLETT is scheduled to appear for court in North Bay on September 29th, 2009.

On Sunday, August 23rd, 2009, shortly before 4 p.m. several traffic complaints were received in regards to two southbound motorcycles travelling at a high rate of speed. Witnesses report them passing between the northbound and southbound vehicles as well as passing to the right of southbound vehicles. An OPP officer located both motorcycles just north of the city of North Bay on Highway 11. Both male drivers, Kim LAFRAMBOISE, 20 years old of Armstrong Township and Andre G. LAFRAMBOISE, 23 years old, of Hilliard Township, were charged with Dangerous Operation s. 249(1) (a) CC. As well, both motorcycles were towed and seized for stunt driving and 7 day suspensions were issued to both drivers. They are scheduled to appear for court in North Bay on October 6th, 2009.

Over the weekend, OPP officers have also charged two drivers with having a Speed Measuring Warning Device. Under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario it is an offence to carry such device as per s. 79(1) of the HTA. A police officer may without a warrant, stop, enter and search a motor vehicle that he or she has reasonable grounds to believe is equipped with or carries or contains a Speed Measuring Warning Device and seize the device. A person in contravention of this act is liable to a fine of not less than $100 and not more than $1,000.
