Business owner finds 'Ever Cool' way to deliver ice cream treats

'It puts a lot of smiles on people's faces and I do not see one angry customer'

Shauna Vazquez has been running Oak Street Eatery in Downtown North Bay for five years.

She says an idea to expand into the ice cream business came when they were asked to serve ice cream at a Pow Wow event in North Bay.

"We took our ice cream over and we had lineups all day at the Pow Wow," she recalled.

"I thought I had to do this and I had to make it cool."

So that spurred the restaurant owner into creating her own personalized ice cream trailer under the fitting name "Ever Cool Ice Cream," which she says was officially created by her husband and business partner.

This summer is the fourth year for the unique trailer which is located in a parking lot near the corner of Algonquin Avenue and Lansdowne.

Vasquez says they have also expanded to use a traveling Ever Cool Ice Cream trailer as well.

"That trailer allows me to set up at movie sets or different events across North Bay and Sudbury," said Vasquez who lives in Warren.

Vazquez has also used the unique magic of social media to show off their line of ice cream treats which include floats, ice cream sandwiches, banana splits, milk shakes, and traditional ice cream cones.

"I think the secret is a lot of imagination and just trying new things and seeing if they work out," she said.

"You need to put a lot of love into your business, this does not have to be like fast food being the same every time. Some of our stuff is the same but we put a lot of thought into each treat."

Vasquez admits there is something special about ice cream.

"Everything is special about ice cream," Vasquez chuckled.

"It puts a lot of smiles on people's faces and I do not see one angry customer."

Vasquez admits this adventure would never work without family as well as community support.

"You have to be really dedicated," she said.
