Habitat for Humanity North Bay and Blue Sky Region sent their thanks to the community for continued support in the Alcan Builds on Recycling fundraising initiative during the January pop can report.

The group has received 257,004 cans which equal 7,788 pounds since they launched the campaign on May 3, 2007, which in turn means $4,426.77 raised for the organization so far.

Habitat volunteer Ellen Faulkner has been instrumental in the pop can effort, as well as every other group initiative from bake sales to nail sales; she has given up almost every Saturday since May 2003 to be at the North Bay Mall to gather the cans for the community.

In recognition of Faulkner’s tireless and long standing dedication to the local chapter the Habitat Board of Directors will designate the first house build on First Avenue as ‘Ellen’ House

Officials encourage everyone to continue collecting their pop cans and drop them off every Saturday at the North Bay Mall (Sportchek entrance) from 9:30 to noon.

They are hoping to collect at least 1100 pounds per month to put them in the running for the $60,000.00 award from Alcan on May 03, 2008.
