The Near North District School Board held its inaugural meeting on Tuesday, December 5, 2006. The Board welcomed three new trustees for the upcoming four-year term. Trustees Kathy Hewitt, Linda Ann E. Thompson and David Thompson have joined the Board. Rev. David Jones gave the invocation and Justice Michel Moreau, a former teacher with the NNDSB, administered the oaths.

As its first order of business, the Board conducted elections for chair and vice-chair. Alan Bottomley was re-elected chair of the Near North District School Board for the 2006-2007. Eunice Saari was elected vice-chair. Both the Chair and Vice-Chair spoke about the hard work ahead while sharing their belief that this Board team can provide a positive future for the students in the District.

The first regular meeting of the Board has been re-scheduled to Wednesday, December 13, 2006 in order to accommodate the traditional school holiday break.

The Near North District School Board sees itself as part of the growth and development of the Near North region as reflected in the theme Grow with Us! The trustees and staff of the District are committed to offering diverse programs and services to approximately 12,000 at 43 schools, as we fulfil our mission to "educate learners to their fullest potential in preparation for life-long learning."
