No the Town of Bonfield has not received word on emergency funding following last week’s flooding yet, but the Bonfield Agricultural Society had plenty of reasons to celebrate this past weekend.

Taking time out of the annual Horseshoe Tournament Friday the board members gladly welcomed Nipissing MPP Monique Smith and OTF representative Mary Lou Arrowsmith for a presentation of a $150,000 Ontario Trillium Grant at the Agridome.

The funds will be used for building upgrades (heating, electric and lighting system), well water upgrades, new fencing as well as kitchen equipment, and proper furniture for indoor and outdoor events.

Agriculture Society spokesman Jean Chaput says the money will go a long way in repairing the centre of the community.

“This grant will help us strengthen our community slogan which we’ve adopted over the years - Small Community, Big Heart.”
