Backhoe driver 'sorry and embarrassed' about incident

Apologizes for 'any distress caused by my actions'
backhoe stuck in ice 2 2016

Dear: Readers, Whitewater Lake residents and customers.

I am sorry and embarrassed. Last weekend I got my truck stuck on Whitewater Lake. I then made a bad decision to try and recover it using my backhoe, which subsequently broke through the ice.

Fortunately the water was only four feet deep and I was easily able to exit the cab which was above the waterline. In my haste to seek assistance, I neglected to inform authorities who then dispatched emergency services.

I apologize for this oversight and any distress caused by my actions.

I especially apologize to the people of Whitewater Lake for threatening the environment of your beautiful lake. A check over of my backhoe revealed no water infiltration or engine oil/diesel fuel/hydraulic oil leakage into the lake.

In fact we had the machine running within six hours of its removal from the lake. Still, this does not excuse my actions. Operation of this machine is my livelihood and I take my job and customer service seriously.

I spared no expense in trying to rectify the situation and would like to thank the operators from Northern Crane and Johnny’s Towing for their professionalism.

Thanks also to EMS and the police for their response. I want to assure everyone I have learned a lesson from this experience and that I will work hard to regain your trust and confidence.

Sincerely,
