Reports indicate that the two-day occupation of a Scarborough auto parts plant ended earlier today.

According to the Toronto Star the occupation ended when union negotiators received assurances that Chrysler will help with severance pay; and vows more action elsewhere if Ford, GM don't pitch in.

North Bay resident Brian Stevens, a senior CAW union staff representative who spent the weekend inside the plant said the workers were united in the effort.

"Our members at the Ingersoll plant have decided to act in solidarity with us in our fight to make sure the corporations live up to their legal and contractual obligations."

"While this struggle for fairness began in the quiet darkness Friday night, the success of our fight back came about because the solidarity among our members at the Scarborough facility, quickly spreading to the Collins & Aikman Guelph and Ingersoll plants. Those CAW members took supportive actions, forcing Daimler Chrysler to accept a guarantor position in relation to the severance payments that are rightly owed to the Scarborough workers. We are
confident that shifting the focus onto GM and Ford will ensure that our members claims will be fully addressed," he states.
