The Canadian Government estimates that the Aerospace/Space Industry will become a 27 Billion Dollar Industry.

The Canadian Government estimates that the Aerospace/Space Industry will become a 27 Billion Dollar Industry.

The aerospace caucus has been founded to link parliamentarians to industry, so as to better understand the needs and direction of this industry.   Nipissing-Timiskaming MPP Jay Aspin is the Vice Chair of Aerospace and about a month go he met with NASA, Canadian Space Agency officials along with 25 parliamentarians to discuss the future of this up and coming industry.

“I have decided that space is important enough that I invited my colleagues to join a separate space caucus,” said Aspin.

“We haven’t got it quite complete but so far I have about 12 members and we are going to be putting the finishing touches on it this week and we will make a public announcement this coming week.”

Aspin is doing his part to promote the industry in the region, even calling it a “Game Changer” Industry.

Aspin played a part in announcing funding for a partnership between Canadore Aviation and Swiss Space Systems as part of a $10 million dollars project which will see the development of a composite materials facility followed by the launch of private sector sub-orbital satellites from Jack Garland Airport as soon as this spring.  The ground breaking for the new facility at the Canadore Aviation Complex took place Friday.

“I created the Aerospace Forum only a year ago and the point is that we have to build on our assets in North Bay we’ve had this 10,000 foot runway, we have Canadore Aviation, we have NORAD, we are already in the space field in terms of NORAD. We have a history of Aerospace and Aviation in the North Bay area so its a natural for us to expand of that government priority sector,” said Aspin on Friday at the Canadore Aviation Campus.

Jay Aspin all smiles on Friday after the rope cutting ground breaking ceremony of the new Composite Materials facility to be constructed next to the Canadore Aviation Campus.
