Aspin to host business forum; funds youth intern program

On Thursday night at the Chamber of Commerce meeting, he announced that Rob Nicholson, Minister of Foreign Affairs wil be his guest as part of an international business forum in North Bay. 

The event will take place on May 29th at One Kid's Place.  

“This forum will be a very valuable, unique opportunity for our regional businesses,” said MP Jay Aspin. “For businesses operating abroad, the event will be an opportunity to interface with a senior Cabinet Minister on this file.”

Gas Tax

Aspin also made the announcement of $3,107,000 in infrastructure funding for the city of North Bay through the Federal Gas Tax for the City of North Bay's 2014-15 installment which was highlighted during a press conference at North Bay City Hall on Friday.

"This Federal Gas Tax Fund is given directly to municipalities within minimal restrictions, giving municipalities the reliable funding they need to support their priority infrastructure needs," said Aspin in a release.   

Youth Intern hired

On Friday morning, Aspin also handed over a cheque for $26,000. to assist MetricAid Inc. to employ a youth intern.  

“I am very pleased our government continues to invest in both local innovation and youth,” said MP Jay Aspin in a release.

“Over $4 million has been invested in local youth in our region since 2011 to provide them with key work skills and experience as well as real local opportunities as we continue to fight outmigration from the region.”

Based in North Bay, MetricAid Inc. is a software development company that provides forecasting and scheduling solutions for medical professionals in hospital emergency settings to help reduce wait-times, improve patient care and increase revenues. 

The announcement was made at their downtown office on McIntyre Street in the old Vested Interest loft.  

Pan Am Funding

Aspin also announced Friday $5,000 in funding from Heritage Canada to help the City of North Bay celebrate the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games which take place this summer.   The Pan Am Torch Relay route will pass through North Bay on Wednesday, June 3rd.
