“Canada heavily relies on trade, including right here in Nipissing-Timiskaming,” said Jay Aspin.

Jay Aspin, Conservative candidate for Nipissing-Timiskaming, applauded the successful conclusion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations today.

The agreement has been reached almost 28 years to the day after Canada concluded its first-ever free-trade agreement with the United States.

“This deal is significant, Canada will have preferential access to more than 800 million customers,” said Jay Aspin in a news release.

“In a global economy, there is no more certain way to secure long-term economic growth, and create good, well-paying jobs for Canadians than by expanding markets for Canadian business.”

Aspin says a re-elected Conservative Government would ratify and implement this historic agreement. As with all trade agreements, the TPP will be subject to full Parliamentary review and approval before it is passed and brought into force.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership is the largest free-trade agreement in history, represented by a 12-nation market of nearly 800 million customers.
