Aspin looks forward to fall session

As Parliament is set to resume on September 17th Jay Aspin, Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming is reflecting on the accomplishments of his busy summer recess. To complement considerable funding announcements for jobs, economic development, arts and culture development, MP Aspin hosted four senior members of cabinet including the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper.



“My message has consistently been to raise the bar for the betterment of Nipissing-Timiskaming,” said MP Aspin. “The summer recess from Parliament has been an opportunity for me to spend more time in my riding to continue to focus on accomplishing these goals.”



This summer three Ministers have visited Nipissing-Timiskaming to assist MP Aspin and his quest to “raise the bar” for the riding. In June, Labour Minister Labour Raitt convened an important roundtable on Labour Relations involving representations of two dozen regional businesses. In July, Treasury Board President and Minister responsible for FedNor, Tony Clement was present to announce over $2 million in job creation and economic development enhancements for the riding. In August, Heritage Minister James Moore convened a regional discussion on Official Languages and announced close to $800,00 of investments for arts and cultural community.


“It is very important to me to host Ministers in Nipissing-Timiskaming for roundtables, announcements and public input” said MP Aspin. “It gives our business and community leaders and our constituents a better opportunity to express their perspectives and share their experiences. It is my goal that Nipissing-Timiskaming has a strong voice in Ottawa.”



Clearly, the special highlight for the summer was the June 1st visit of our Prime Minister to pay tribute to Canadian and American Armed Forces on Armed Forces Day. This year marked the 60th anniversary of the partnership between 22 Wing Canadian Forces Base and United States Forces stationed in North Bay. “The men and women of our armed forces sacrifice so much so we are able to live in peace and prosperity. I don’t think they could have been honoured more suitably than by the leader of our nation. I was so pleased that I had a firm hand in making that happen” said MP Aspin.


As Parliament prepares to return to session MP Aspin looks forward to another positive session with more accomplishments.
