Local MP Jay Aspin handed out some more pre-election cash on Wednesday as the Nipissing-Timiskaming MP announced $1.5 Million in funding which will go towards the Lakeshore Drive Overpass Project.

The announcement came today at a press conference at North Bay's City Hall.

“The rehabilitation of the overpass is a key infrastructure project which is a key priority of the Mayor and Council of the City of North Bay,” said MP Jay Aspin in a release.

“As is it their key priority, it is my key priority as it is a perfect application of the Small Communities Fund. This is an important piece of infrastructure for the city and I was pleased to work collaboratively with my provincial and municipal partners to make it happen.”

The project will involve the replacement of the entire deck: new asphalt, sidewalks, guard rails and light standards, as well as major repairs to the substructure.

Aspin says this initiative will extend the life of the deteriorating overpass and allow the significant traffic volume to continue, avoiding further severe congestion issues and providing an easier and safer commute for North Bay residents and visitors.

Aspin also announced $49,000 in funding that will allow for accessibility renovations at the entrance of the YMCA’s North Bay Aquatic Centre.

Aspin says those funds come from the Enabling Accessibility Fund.
