Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Jay Aspin made a funding announcement Thursday morning that will help dozens of Northern Ontario agriculture related businesses promote their products at a high profile event.

FEDNOR working in conjuction with the NECO Community Futures Development Corporation is handing out $408,872 in funding to establish a Northern Ontario Pavillion at the 2014 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, which takes place in November in Toronto.

"It’s one of the biggest agricultural shows on the planet so what a great opportunity that’s close at hand for our agricultural people, our equine people to go down there and market their goods,” said Aspin to the media after the event.

NECO is one of 24 Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) funded by FedNor to serve Northern Ontario businesses and communities. CFDCs are community-based, not-for-profit organizations run by volunteer boards and staffed by experienced business and economic development professionals.

“Today’s announcement is a strong show of support from FedNor and the Government of Canada for the work we do to develop, grow and diversify the regional economy," said Juanita Allan, Chair of the NECO CFDC.

"Establishing a Northern Ontario Pavilion at the Royal Winter Fair is a proven economic driver that helps new and existing businesses capitalize on emerging opportunities in the modern economy.”

Since 2006, through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, the Harper Government has invested more than $308 million in support of 1,500 projects. These investments have created more than 15,000 jobs throughout Northern Ontario.

The money is accessible to any Northern Ontario Agriculture related businesses who are interested in attending the fair.  Those businesses are asked to contact NECO for more information.
