The City of North Bay will be looking for public feedback tonight during a public information session relating to the replacement of West Ferris arena and the potential development of a new community centre.

The event will take place at the Discovery North Bay Museum at 7 p.m. on Thursday night.

The city is encouraging all the organizations that utilize the arenas to come to the information session.

The city is still looking for the ideal location to build a new rink which would replace West Ferris which is expected to close in 2019.

Options include behind Memorial Gardens, a facility near the Steve Omischl Sports Complex as well as West Ferris residents pushing to have a new rink build near the current arena site on Gertrude.

On Tuesday, the Trappers AAA Hockey Association has voiced its opinion recently supporting the arena project behind Memorial Gardens.

Another option was behind the Canadore College Commerce Court campus just west of Pete Palangio arena.

Canadore College was looking to team up with private partners and the city to build a sports complex but Canadore College has pulled away from that initiative to focus on an indoor soccer facility.

Other investors were looking at land along highway 17 across from Beaucage Road as a possible new arena location.

Recently council approved a special committee of council members as well as approval to do geotechnical studies at the potential replacement sites.

Mark King, the Chair of Community Services, is also on the committee.

He has stated no final decisions will be made without public consultation which is what the Thursday meeting is all about.
