Campfires like this one have been banned until further notice..

Put those matches down. An open fire ban is in effect throughout the district.

Due to current weather conditions, North Bay Fire & Emergency Services has put an immediate ban on all open burning for the City of North Bay," says

Fire Chief Jason Whiteley,

"This includes all those who are current permit holders. The area has experienced warmer than average temperature with little rainfall over the past few weeks.  The warm and dry conditions are expected to continue with no significant rainfall predicted for the next couple of weeks."

The ban includes all open burning and fireworks.

"North Bay Fire & Emergency Services will strictly enforce the ban on open burning," warned Whiteley. "This restriction will remain in effect until further notice. The public is reminded that burning brush or grass for clean up around your homes, can be dangerous. Just one careless moment can lead to a wildfire and threaten people, houses, and the community."

Meanwhile, the following municipalities have also confirmed a fire ban until further notice with no open air burning or fireworks permitted according to East Ferris Fire Chief Frank Loeffen.

  • East Ferris,
  • West Nipissing,
  • Chisholm,
  • Powassan,
  • Nipissing,
  • Callander,
  • Mattawa,
  • Burks Falls,
  • Sundridge,
  • Magnetawan,
  • Kearney and
  • Perry.

South River and Temagami have suspended permit but are allowing campfires.

The current Forest Fire Hazard Rating for the Village of South River and the Township of Machar is high says Risto Maki, Fire Chief.

" All fire permits are cancelled and fireworks are not permitted. Campfires of 18 cubic inches 0.03 cubic meters are permitted at this time but should be handled with extreme care."
