Forest Fire situation report for Thursday August 2nd

HIGHLIGHTS:
• 3 new; 21 active fires
• 316 fires; 7658.3 hectares to date since Apr.1st

DETAILS:
There have been 3 new fires in the last 24 hours; three lightning fires in the Britt, French River Provincial Park and Grundy Lake Provincial Park areas. All three are small, under 0.5 hectares and are all being held with no problems anticipated. There are currently 18 other active fires. The majority of these active fires are in the far northwest portion of the East Fire Region near Fort Severn and have been caused by lightning. Other active fires are on Manitoulin Island in the Wikwemikong Reserve and in the Parry Sound district.

A cold front from the west will move into the East Fire Region today. Showers and thunderstorms will spread across the region through the day. Temperatures will remain above seasonal east of the cold front but drop to more seasonal values behind. Winds will be moderate to strong.
The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds the public that before burning please check with your municipality to be advised of their burning regulations. Never leave your fire unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving.
