UPDATED Another transport accident on a northern highway

'We find another driver who can't keep their truck on the road on a clear sunny day'

Update: 12:30 p.m.

On September 11, shortly after 4 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the OPP, responded to a call about a single motor vehicle accident on Highway 624, Marter Township, East of Englehart.

An investigation revealed that the tractor-trailer had been travelling southbound on Highway 624, when the driver lost control. The truck was carrying woodchips and there was a minor spill in the ditch.

The highway had to be closed in both directions for a short time to allow for the truck portion to be towed. The trailer portion is scheduled to be removed today.

The driver of the vehicle, Claude Poulin, 49, of Palmarolle, Quebec sustained minor injuries and is charged with:

  • Fail to drive in marked lane, and
  • Careless driving.

The OPP's Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting with this investigation.

Original story:

OPP are investigating another transport truck accident on a northern highway, this time on 624 near Earlton.

The rollover happened yesterday.

The OPP Twitter feed says, "On the heels of the CMV going into Angus Lake...we find another driver who can't keep their truck on the road on a clear sunny day. #OPP #Temiskaming Detachment investigating another CMV rollover. This time on Hwy 624 near #Earlton. Charges are pending."

No other details are yet available.

The Angus Lake reference is to a tractor-trailer that was driven into a lake off Highway 11 just south of Temagami Sunday morning.

The Highway 624 accident was the third in just three days on northern highways.

Also yesterday a transport driver was charged after causing a four-vehicle collision on Highway 17 West.

In that collision, a moving westbound tractor-trailer rear-ended a car, creating a chain reaction by colliding with the pick-up truck. That pick-up then collided with the pick-up in front of it. The car spun into the eastbound lane where it came to rest, and the tractor-trailer entered the eastbound ditch.

The 63-year-old driver was charged by OPP with careless driving.
