North Bay Mayor Al McDonald has filed papers to enter the mayor's race.

McDonald becomes the fourth person to join the race. He won a three person race in the 2010 municipal election.

In that election McDonald won the office of Mayor with 86% of the vote.

“I’m at work every morning by 7:30 a.m. and often spend 12 to 14 hours a day, 6 to 7 days per week, working on behalf of our citizens. I love my city, I love being Mayor and I can’t think of a better job,” said McDonald in a news release.

“Every day brings new challenges and new opportunities.”

McDonald stated he is looking forward to a healthy and robust discussion about the future of North Bay and to debating the issues with other candidates.

“The best ideas are often the result of spirited conversation. We all want what’s best for our community and as I have always said, we are fortunate to call North Bay home, it is by far the greatest place I know of to work, live and play.”

The City of North Bay website says McDonald has served the community as a Deputy Mayor and Councillor, as Member of Provincial Parliament, as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Enterprise, on numerous boards, agencies and committees and through thousands of volunteer hours on community projects both big and small.

The deadline for others to run is two o'clock Friday afternoon.

The three other candidates are Harvey Villneff, Dan Seguin and Greg Gray.

There are also 22 candidates running so far for council seats.
