Hearst – Officers of the Hearst OPP Detachment received a report for emergency assistance from an airplane that was attempting to make an emergency landing at the Hearst Municipal René Fontaine Airport, located on Airport Road, at Johnson’s Lake, in the Town of Hearst.

On Monday, the 21st of September 2009 at 9:57 hrs Officers were notified that a Convair 950 aircraft, operating under the name of NoliNor had undertook a flight from Val D’Or, Québec to Nunavut when the aircraft lost one engine, cabin pressure and electrical power. The Fire Department, Ambulance Service and emergency personnel, all from the Town of Hearst, attended the airport to assist the aircraft and its crew which landed safely at 10:32 hrs using battery power only.

The aircraft contained 47 passengers, 3 crew members and 2 pilots all unharmed and able to walk away from this emergency landing.
