The City of North Bay is inviting applications from members of the general public who wish to be considered for appointment to the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC).

The City encourages qualified and interested citizens of North Bay aged 18 and older to volunteer their services and to provide input on various issues that affect the City of North Bay and its residents. The appointments are on a volunteer basis only and there is no compensation. The term of office runs concurrently with the term of Council, expiring in 2022.

The mandate of MAAC is to advise Council respecting the preparation, implementation and effectiveness of the Municipal Accessibility Plan created under the provisions of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 (ODA), and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), 2005.

MAAC is reviewing several accessibility projects, existing and planned in North Bay, including the symbiosis between conventional and specialized transit; North Bay Transit's new dynamic dispatching service; initiatives such as beach mats and accessible change tables; and, the upcoming accessibility improvements to Armstrong Park.

For more information, the point of contact with the City is Adam Curran, who serves as the committee's secretary. Curran can be reached by email here.

MAAC generally meets monthly, on the first Thursday at noon. Meetings are currently being held on the Zoom platform to observe health and safety protocols.
