The North Bay Symphony announces the Symphony String School, under the direction of Symphony Music Director and Conductor Thomas Jones. The School will fill a vital need in our community to develop a strong group of young string musicians who will form the basis for the Symphony's future.

"The String section is the heart and soul of a symphony orchestra," said Jones. "By developing young musicians, we help to strengthen the Symphony for years to come."

Jordan Wyshniowsky, the String Coordinator for the School, is enthusiastic about the impact that music education has on young people.

"There is a vast amount of research indicating that music instruction improves overall brain development and academic performance for young musicians, especially in math and sciences. And it's amazing what can happen in terms of self-confidence and motivation."

Located downtown on the second floor of the Capitol Centre, the School offers instruction in strings including violin, viola, cello, and double-bass, and provides affordable options to either buy or rent instruments. Classes are open to all ages, and include opportunities for ensemble playing.

Jordan Wyshniowsky can be reached at 705-498-7744 for further information on the School and to register for classes.
