Dreamcoat Theatre held their first dress rehearsal of their latest production Aladdin Sunday afternoon at West Ferris High School.

The dress rehearsal is in preparation for opening night of the play on January 24. The cast of the show is made up of 97 children; ages eight to 13. In September, 200 children auditioned for a role in the performance.

Dreamcoat Theatre was founded in 1998, and since then has produced 28 shows in the community. The organization is dedicated to providing theatre experience “for children by children.”

The first set of shows held on Jan. 24 and 25 will host an audience of children from various school boards.

“We are fully booked, but have a few staggering seats still available,” Show Producer Hali Carlson said.

Choreography for the show has been created by Marg McDiarmid. She explained the ‘mysterious arm movements’ to the music help to tell the story. McDiarmid, who created all the choreography for the show, used Middle Eastern dance moves that are modified to work with children.

“I wanted to make it fun and modern as well,” she said.

On Jan. 26 and 27 the Capitol Centre will be home to the production. Tickets for the Capitol Centre show are available at the centre or at Creative Learning for $15.
