The rain may have dampened plans for an official parade during a change of command at CFB North Bay, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of everyone involved.

An emotional Lieutenant-Colonel Don Mulders handed over his command of the Wing Administration and Technical Services Branch today to Lieutenant-Colonel S.N Lew.

It may have been only three years that Mulders has been in North Bay, but in that short time he endeared himself to the community especially to the The Branch 23 Royal Canadian Legion Pipes & Drums of which he was a member.

“It was a hell of three years, and an amazing three years,” he told a packed house.

Mulders, who is posted to Belgium, also his team that he was very proud of the work they, did as the base modernised and transitioned from the hole to the new Sgt. David L. Pitcher complex.

“We depart as much better people then when we arrived,” states Mulder.

Lieutenant-Colonel Lew, who started his career in the hole almost 20 years ago, says he has big shoes to fill following Mulders, but looks forward to continuing to foster the relationship between the military and the community.

Lew also said he is happy to be back in the Bay and looks forward to fishing with his sons.
