It was time to pay up for Police Chief Paul Cook.

North Bay’s Top Cop came through with his promise to Durham Region Police Chief Paul Martin.

The two high ranking police officials made a friendly bet over who would win the series between the Battalion and the Generals back in April - a series which the Generals captured in 6 games en route to both an OHL and Memorial Cup title.

North Bay has a connection to the Generals as local goaltender Kenny Appleby led the Gens to the two major titles.  His parents, Tina and Brian Appleby, were on hand to see the flag raising experience unfold.

“I bet Chief Paul Martin from Durham Regional Police that the Battalion would take the Generals. The Generals came up big, great series. Obviously North Bay’s Kenny Appleby played a huge role in the fact that not only did Oshawa beat the Battalion but then went on to win the Memorial Cup. So we are really thrilled the Appleby’s could join us here today for the flag raising so I can pay off my bet by wearing the Oshawa Generals jersey --- proud to do so. And of course flying the Durham Regional Police Service flag above police headquarters at 135 Princess Street West, where it will fly for 24 hours. We will give them a full day,” said Cook early Monday morning.

For Brian and Tina Appleby, it’s been a whirlwind experience since the Generals won the Memorial Cup title, beating the Kelowna Rockets 2-1 in overtime on May 31st.

“It’s been an overwhelming week, we are still absorbing it all,” admitted Tina Appleby.

“I don’t think I’ve come down quite yet, it’s absolutely phenomenal.  I can’t even express how it felt to be right there at ice level and see the boys win the Memorial Cup.”
